This is the story of my journey with God. Christianity isn't about a ticket to heaven, it is about a real relationship with God that starts right now.
This is my journey of getting to know him better. I know that I can't earn his love- it is purely by his grace. His love is the greatest you could ever know.
This blog is a way for you to keep in touch and see what's happening on my journey.

It's really good that Sunday's 'Hallo Luther' was covered well by the media. There was a good article and lots of pictures in the paper too. For those of you who aren't quite up to scratch on your German, the event was celebrating Luther and the Reformation. There was a lot on the whole day.
There were loads of people around! It happened to be a special weekend in Kassel anyway which meant pretty much everyone was out shopping. It was cool that the church was out in the open. A lot of people were interested in the history but a huge load of Bibles were also taken away, including around 700 kids bibles. I'm quite excited because God speaks through the bible. It was less about the conversations at the time but more about people's desire for God's word which they now have. It was pretty cool that I saw a family there from Thurs kids group who asked for bibles. The mum hasn't had one before. Cool! I showed her where she could begin reading. Exciting!
So as I mentioned before I was really involved in the afternoon kids programme. I have to say I quite enjoyed wearing the headset (!), except when it came off when I jumped off the stage with too much enthusiasm. It was really so much fun! We did a couple of songs every so often and at some points the tent was really full and I could see people waiting for the tram looking to see what on earth we were doing. I really couldn't help smiling. It was a joy! Even some serious people cracked out a smile and some of the older ones joined in with the actions, which was funny to watch. The kids participated really well. We just had a load of fun praising God. It was actually quite strenous. I had really bad pulled muscles in my legs for literally 3 days!

The last couple of times at Rothenditmold (the particularly challenging kids group) have been pretty strenous. Last week we were exhausted. We had 12 kids which is really great but they are the hardest kids I have ever met. It was quite a battle last week. It is frustrating because the kids would have such a great time if they behaved. They make it difficult for each other. They are really complex though and I think it will take a long time before they learn for example that each one is utterly loved and valued by God. That said though, there have been some really good moments amongst the craziness. Today I told the story of the lost sheep and they listened relatively well. There were some good one to one moments with the craft too. Pray for energy, and that God gives us a massive compassion for the kids.

I had a great time at housegroup again this week, and enjoyed a lovely afternoon again with a lady from church. We went for a lovely walk after lunch in the proper countryside. It was beautiful!

I read a verse yesterday about valuing others more important that myself.. pray for me that I might be able to do that a bit more. I've also found myself taking things possibly a bit too personally. Pray that I don't get discouraged, instead get encouraged by truth.

Still love hearing your news. I appreciate all emails/letters/messages/random facebook comments/visits!

Love,
Ruth x

  2. Whoa Ruth, that is so cool. You're basically a celebrity now :) That Reformation celebration sounds and looks pretty awesome! I wish we had something like that here. Also, don't get too discouraged about the poorly behaved kids. I know how hard it can be but more than likely they are getting more out of it than you imagine. Keep up the good work, it's such an encouragement to hear from you on here!
